What is the meaning of faithfulness?
- Remaining loyal and steadfast
- Performing according to a pre-defined expectation
- Being committed and reliable
What is the connection between faith and faithfulness?
- Faith and faithfulness are alternate sides of the same coin
- If you have genuine faith in something (someone), you will commit yourself to it (them) and perform according to expectation
- Unfaithfulness is strong proof that your faith is false or shallow
- Unfaithfulness = Faithlessness, 2 Timothy 2:13
- Faith + Faithfulness = Godly Result
- Faith without faithfulness (corresponding actions) is dead, James 2:14,26
What does it mean to say that God is faithful?
- God is loyal and steadfast
- God is committed and reliable
- God is predictable – He performs according to a pre-defined expectation
What is God faithful to?
- God is faithful to His Word and to His righteous character, 2 Timothy 2:13, AMP
- God is not primarily faithful to men because men can be unfaithful!
- If we deny him, He will deny us, 2 Timothy 2:12
- It is because of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, Lamentations 3:22
- If God is unpredictable, then He can’t be faithful. For God to be faithful, He must be predictable
- God is not a thief! It is the thief that comes to steal, kill and destroy, John 10:10
- The problem is never on God’s side for God is righteous and holy. If there is a problem, it is always on man’s side, James 1:17
- You can predict God by His Word (written and spoken)
- God’s faithfulness depends on His Word
- The pre-defined expectation that defines God’s faithfulness is His Word
What is the condition I need to satisfy in order to enjoy/benefit from God’s faithfulness?
- You have to align yourself with God’s Word and not take God for granted
- You have to take God (and the things of God) seriously
- You have to repent quickly and forgive quickly
- You have to put God’s Word first in your life, every time
- You have to pay attention!
- You have to listen to what God is saying and take appropriate action
- Laziness and carelessness will compromise you
- You have to humble yourself before the Lord and obey His Word, James 4:6-10
- You have to discipline the flesh, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
- Living by faith involves reading, listening, meditating, believing, confessing and acting on the Word consistently, Joshua 1:8
- There is no faith without faithfulness!
