Romans 6:1-23
What is sin?
- Sin is rebellion against God
- The Most High God is perfect: He alone defines right
- 1 John 1:5, James 1:17
- Sin is disobedience to the Word of God
- Sin is misalignment with the will of God
- All idolatry and immorality is sin!
What is righteousness?
- Righteousness is right standing with God
- Righteousness is obedience to the Word of God
- Righteousness is alignment with the will of God
- Righteousness is producing the works of God
- Righteousness is bringing glory to God
- Only the Most High God is right. You can only be right when you’re in perfect alignment with Him.
- All unrighteousness is sin!, 1 John 5:17
How can I become righteous?
- Righteousness is a divine exchange!
- When you repent and make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, He takes your sin and your receive His gift of righteousness by faith
- Romans 6:4, 5:17, 6:23
- At the New Birth, you become a new creation in your spirit (Salvation). However, your soul need to be continuously renewed (Sanctification) and your body needs to be continuously presented (Consecration)
- 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 17:17, Romans 12:1-2
What is the source of sin in a true believer?
- The flesh (unrenewed mind and unpresented body)
- The flesh is weak!, Romans 8:3-6
- All sin originates from pride and selfishness!
- If you don’t renew (cleanse) your mind and present (discipline) your body, you cannot live above sin
How can I live in continuous victory over sin?
- You need empowerment through grace. Grace comes from God
- You have to humble yourself and be submissive, Philippians 2:5-8
- You have to put (the Word of) God at the top priority place in your life!
- You have to renew your mind with the Word, daily
- Your mind renewal is achieved through reading, hearing, listening, meditating and confessing (proclaiming) the Word
- John 17:17, Ephesians 5:26-27, Romans 10:10,17
- You have to fellowship with other true believers in the Word and Prayer. This is an essential part of your sanctification (transformation)
- You have to know your identity as a new creation in Christ and confess it over every manifestation of weakness in the flesh
- You have to present your body as a living sacrifice that is holy and acceptable unto God
- Your consecration is a life-long process of disciple, self-denial and living by faith through confession and obedience
- You cannot be a true disciple of Christ without discipline!
- You have to repent quickly whenever you sin, and receive ‘forgiveness and cleansing’ by faith, 1 John 1:9
- You have to abstain from all appearances of evil, 1 Thessalonians 5:22
- You have to cut off the content, gadgets, dressing, adornment, people, activities and influences in your life that are making you fall into sin, Matthew 5:27-30
- You have to persevere in doing good, Galatians 6:9
