Matthew 5:1-12
What does it mean to be truly blessed?
- The word blessing implies a divine involvement
- To be blessed is to have God’s approval and God’s favour (Grace) upon your life
- To be blessed is to be a partaker of everything that God has for you
- Being rich in money and possessions is not the same as being blessed (unbelievers – sinners – can have these without God in their lives)
- The foundation of true blessing is righteousness and godliness
Who was the richest man (money and possessions) in the Bible?
- Was it Job, Abraham or Solomon?
- Solomon was the richest man mentioned in the Bible
- Read Matthew 6:29 and Luke 12:27
- The material prosperity of Solomon led him into idolatry
- The end of Solomon was a spiritual tragedy!
- Read 1 Kings 11:1-13
What does it mean to be truly rich and prosperous?
- True riches are not just measured in ‘money and possessions’
- To be truly rich is to have everything you need in order to live a righteous and godly life (if you are truly born-again, that’s what you signed up for!)
- To be truly rich is to use all that God has given you productively for His glory (i.e. to be fruitful in all righteousness and godliness)
- To be truly rich is to have treasures in Heaven
- To be truly rich is to be useful to God for His plans and purposes on the earth

Who is the most blessed person that ever lived?
- The Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth
Why is Jesus Christ the most blessed person that ever lived?
- He is the one who fulfilled the will of God more than any other person
- He is the one who has impacted and influenced more lives than any other person
- He is the one who has transformed more lives than any other person
- Jesus gave himself (all that he was and all that he had) completely to God in order to be a blessing to others
Did Jesus Christ give us the most important keys to blessing?
- Yes! These are listed in Matthew 5:1-12
How many keys to blessing did Jesus give us in Matthew 5:1-12?
- 9 keys (There are also 9 elements of the fruit of the spirit)!
- Take note and pay attention to them
What is godly contentment?
- Ability to be grateful and thankful for all that God has given to you
- Ability to put all that you have at God’s disposal for His use
- Ability to trust God to provide all your needs
- Ability to give back to God from what He has given to you
- Ability to recognise that God is your source (the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, Revelation 1:8)
- Read Philippians 4:19, Romans 11:36 and 1 Timothy 6:6-10
What is meekness?
- Meekness is decided strength of disciplined calmness
- Meekness is willingness to persevere in faith
- Meekness is calmness under pressure
- Meekness is strength of character
- Meekness is power under control
- Read Hebrews 6:12 and Psalm 37:8-11
