Springs Article 2017 (11)

God has a purpose for your life and a master plan to fulfil it. His thoughts towards you are of peace and wellbeing (Jeremiah 29:11). In fact, the punishment for your peace and wellbeing has been laid on (into) Christ, and by the stripes that wounded Him, you were (are) healed and made whole (Isaiah 53:5). This is an eternal truth that you need to firmly lay hold on with your confession of faith, until all your circumstances conform.

Do you desire to be on fire for God? Do you really want to live a vibrant and fulfilling life of love and service to your maker? Are you struggling with spiritual issues? Do you want to be effective and fruitful as an ambassador for Christ in your world?  If so, you have to repair the altar of the Lord in your life. 1 Kings 18:30-40 shows us that when Prophet Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord, fire fell from Heaven and consumed the sacrifice!

But how can I repair the altar of the Lord? You cannot achieve this by merely doing more religious activities (don’t misunderstand me: serving the Lord at church is a good thing). You cannot achieve this by merely running multiple sessions of praying and fasting (don’t misunderstand me: praying and fasting is part of the process). If you want to repair the altar of the Lord in your life, you need to take some radical and sacrificial actions.

When Gideon saw the Angel of the Lord, he built an altar there and called it Jehovah Shalom (The Lord is my peace). However, God showed him how to build an altar with godly fire. Firstly, the Lord told him to pull down his father’s altar (a family altar to the false gods: Baal and Asherah). Thereafter, he was told to build the Lord’s altar in that same stronghold with stone laid in proper order. Finally, he was told to offer sacrifice to the Lord on this repaired altar using the wood from the Asherah pole as the fuel to burn the sacrifice (Judges 6:24-26).

The first step to repairing the altar of the Lord is to pull down the false altars that have crept into your life. These include the love of money, selfish ambition, alcohol indulgence, worldly entertainment (TV, video and music: full of strong language, violence, nudity, lewdness, sexual immorality and horror), clubbing, excessive leisure, worldly friendships, self-righteousness, stubbornness, lack of repentance and unforgiveness (Galatians 5:19-21).

The second step to repairing the altar of the Lord is to begin to give God the pre-eminence (first priority) in all aspects of your life (Exodus 20:1-6).

The third step to repairing the altar of the Lord is to begin to redirect your resources (time, skills and money) from false altars and invest them into loving and serving God.
