What is the difference between living in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit?
- Galatians 5:25
- Living in the Spirit refers to being alive in the Spirit. This means that a person is born-again and has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them
- John 3:6
- Walking in the Spirit refers to following (acting on) the promptings of the Spirit
- To live, you just need to breathe; to walk, you need to take steps
What is the master principle of walking in the Spirit?
- Yielding!
- Walking in the Spirit implies yielding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit
- The Holy Spirit indwells and seeks to lead every true child of God; however your flexibility in being led by the Spirit (submitting, cooperating, following) determines if you will walk in the Spirit

- Stubbornness is the art of not yielding; a strong will (being strong-headed) is an hindrance to spiritual maturity
- The more you yield (to the Word and the Spirit), the more you will grow unto spiritual maturity
What does it mean to say that ‘the body is dead because of sin’ according to Romans 8:10?

- When Adam sinned, he led the whole human race into spiritual death

- Spiritual death is spiritual darkness (disconnection from the life of God)
- Spiritual death leads to all other types of evil
- A person receives spiritual life when they get born-again by making Jesus Christ their personal Lord and Saviour
- If you are born-again, then your spirit is alive unto righteousness. However, your body is not born-again; it is still naturally subject to the side-effects of spiritual death (sinful desires, sickness, weakness, physical death)
- In order to liver victoriously, you need to exercise the power of the spiritual life in your spirit to dominate your body, Romans 8:13
What is the danger of walking in the flesh according to Romans 8:13?
- Following the desires of the flesh (i.e. mind and body without God’s control) leads to spiritual death
- Spiritual death starts with spiritual sickness, also known as carnality!
- The carnal mind is enmity against God; to be carnally minded is death
- Romans 8:5-8
- Dying spiritually is progressive: the more you walk in the flesh, the more the spiritual darkness that will dominate your life
Can a ‘born-again’ Christian go to Hell?
- A person that is born can die; a person that is born spiritually can also die spiritually
- The key to spiritual life is abiding (remaining vitally connected) in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ
- The key to spiritual death is rebelling (remaining vitally disconnected) in disobedience to the Lord Jesus Christ
- It is not just any sin that takes a Christian to Hell. It is the sin of rebellion against the conviction of the Holy Spirit (i.e. refusing to repent of your sin according to 1 John 1:9)
- Repentance and Faith are keywords to maintaining spiritual life

How can you dominate (control) the flesh?
- Feed your spirit with the Word, continuously
- Renew your mind with the Word, continuously
- Believe the Word
- Confess the Word
- Practise (obey) the Word
- Yield to (obey the promptings of) the Spirit
- Pray in tongues
- Repent quickly
- Forgive quickly
