A NEW HEART

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Man is a spirit; he has a soul (mind, will and emotions) and lives in a body. With your spirit (heart), you contact the spiritual realm; with your soul, you contact the mental realm; with your body, you contact the physical realm. When Adam (the first man) was created, he had spiritual life. However, we were all in Adam when he fell into Sin and due to this, all generations of mankind are born into spiritual death (i.e. spiritual darkness). This is why we all need to be born-again (1 Thessalonians 5:23, John 3:3).

Man cannot save himself because all men are born with a fallen sinful nature. In this regard, man needs a saviour! However, God has provided a solution in Jesus Christ, the last Adam, who was born of the Holy Spirit through a virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus Christ lived without Sin, yet He paid the supreme sacrifice on the cross of Calvary as the eternal penalty for Sin. He shed His blood to save us from spiritual death (Hebrews 9:22, Colossians 1:14, John 3:16).

When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, He doesn’t just heal or refurbish your old heart. Rather, God makes you a new creation (a brand new spirit: a brand new heart). This is the greatest miracle of all! At the New Birth, you receive a measure of the Holy Spirit, with faith, hope and love (John 1:12, Romans 8:14, Romans 5:5).

Confession: I am a new creation in Christ. I am redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb. I am born of God. I have the Spirit of the living God. I am recreated in the likeness of God. I have the nature of faith and love, as God has it.
